Featured Book: Black Velvet by Sal Casamassima

Featured Book: Black Velvet by Sal Casamassima

Sal Casamassima took early retirement from his corporate job and wandered through various pursuits such as coaching his daughter’s softball teams and amateur wine making. During his wanderings in retirement wonderland, Sal constantly annoyed his daughter by expressing his desire to write a mystery novel. In a vain attempt to stop his endless banter, she told hm to put up or shut up by taking on the NaNoWriMo challenge to complete a 50,000-word novel in the month of November. Of course, Sal failed to complete the required word count but was infected by the writing bug and trudged forward to complete his first novel.

His story and characters in his books are set in contemporary society and actual cities where the crime to be solved is grounded in reality and influenced by the societal challenges we all confront in today’s world. His main characters may have their own quirks and personality flaws but they are portrayed as real people that most of us can relate to. Sal begins writing his books without a final script or outline in mind. He has no clue how the mystery will be solved and leaves it to his protagonists to solve the case for him in real time. He is their stenographer and simply types what they are speaking or thinking.

Sal lives in sunny San Diego, the primary locale for his first novel. He takes advantage of this balmy San Diego weather and goes for aimless walks with his Minpin dog, Zuzu (who is portrayed in his books.)

FEATURED: The Death Wizard Chronicles: Volume 1 by Jim Melvin

Prologue

Such darkness he had never known. In all the centuries of his long life, the wizard had felt nothing as loathsome as this. Torturous days and weeks lay behind, endless horror ahead. He was helpless in the grip of doom.

For a millennium he had freely roamed the planet Triken, using his prodigious powers to unite the forces of good. But now a sorcerer held him captive in a pit bored into the solid rock of a frozen mountain. Beyond the walls of his prison, a war would soon take place that would dwarf all others. An evil had arisen that threatened not just Triken but the fabric that held together the universe. Only the wizard could stop it. But first he had to survive.

The pit was 200 cubits deep but only three cubits in diameter. The prisoner lay curled at its bottom like a snake in a well. Fetid dankness swirled about him, creeping in and out of his nostrils with every breath. A chill like no other clung to his body, freezing his heart.

All he had left were his memories, which provided his only relief from the relentless blackness. He immersed himself in them, focusing on the past instead of the present. Doing this went against all that he held true. But it kept him sane.

For a fraction of a moment. And another. Another …

Featured Book: The Christmas Wish in Twinkle Falls by Freda Ann

Featured Book: The Christmas Wish in Twinkle Falls by Freda Ann

I was born in a small town in southern New Jersey but lived with my parents and four older siblings in a sleepy little beach town along the Delaware Bay named Fortescue.

When I was six years old, we moved to Port St. Lucie, Florida, a then small town near the east coast. Years later with a family of my own, me and my soulmate moved to another small town near Crystal River, Florida.

Due to numerous food allergies I’ve been a vegan for five years. I love animals, especially dogs and horses. I’m an avid romance reader and movie lover, I’m obsessed with dark chocolate, coffee, and I enjoy crafting throughout the year.

Me and my husband like traveling in our thirty-five foot RV with our fur-babies, Sofie and Coco, when we have free time. Many of my sweet romance books have been created while riding with my husband at the wheel and the pups supervising.

With five adult children, and nine grandkids, I enjoy lots of family time and host gatherings for everyone to come together so we can catch up when our schedules align.

Some of my happiest moments as an author have been while reading emails from my fans who take the time to share something about themselves, to wish me well (especially during my cancer treatments in 2022), or to let me know what their favorite story was.

Featured Book: The Butler Did It! by Jinx James

Featured Book: The Butler Did It! by Jinx James

Comedy fiction author Jinx James was born in the UK and lives in Australia. He worked in music and advertising and has always been fascinated by charisma, satire, and what makes people laugh. He’s also intrigued by how his characters react when confronted by a terrifying dilemma. As he always says, it’s the characters that write the stories, not him. They seem to somehow insist that their voices are heard, and often it’s with a chuckle.
Today Jinx lives in a wine-growing area in regional Australia with his wife and two dogs. As Kit James, he writes a humorous series, Mutt to Megastar, starring Elliott, a wisecracking dog.

Featured Book: The Case of The Washed-Up Corpse (Grave Sisters Mysteries: Book 1) by Tam May

Writing has been Tam May’s voice since the age of fourteen. She writes stories set in the past featuring sassy but sensitive women characters. Tam is the author of the Adele Gossling Mysteries, which takes place in the early 20th century and features suffragist and epistolary expert Adele Gossling whose talent for solving crimes doesn’t sit well with her town’s conventional ideas about women. She also has a new series, the Grave Sisters Mysteries, about three sisters who own a funeral home and help the county D.A. solve crimes in a 1920s small California town, set to release in 2025. In addition, she has written historical fiction about women breaking loose from the social and psychological expectations of their era. Although Tam left her heart in San Francisco, she lives in the Midwest because it’s cheaper. When she’s not writing, she’s devouring everything classic (books, films, art, music), concocting yummy plant-based dishes, and exploring her riverside town.
