Loss Of Reason by Miles A. Maxwell

One Of The Most Disturbing Stories You’ll Ever Read!
Distant for many years, Franklin out of Pennsylvania and his step-brother Everon out of Nevada are connected by a single link: Their sister Cynthia.

Enter The Nightmare
A nuclear bomb is detonated in New York. Banker, wife, mother, Cynthia lives in New York. The military has quarantined the city, its bridges and tunnels destroyed or blocked. Easterly winds have forced the bomb’s radiation cloud out over Long Island. But the wind is about to change.

Franklin climbs mountains and truly understands people. Everon can fly anything. Cynthia’s brothers are determined to find her. If it were your sister, what would you do?

A ripping good tale of how intelligence and determination can overcome the near-impossible. And the true price of altruism.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
In bed listening to ambulance and police sirens in New York City one night, frustrated by mouse-on-a-wheel syndrome — traffic, taxes, intrusive government — I began to wonder how long the City would last, how long it would be until someone dropped The Big One.

I decided to move out west, but kept thinking about New York, wondering what the aftermath of such an explosion might be, eventually realizing there would be more than one. I began to develop a vision of a new sort of country that might rise from the destruction.

How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
Since all politics is based on philosophy, and as the dominant philosophy worldwide is religion, I knew the story ought to have a minister. But not an ordinary minister, because in my studies of Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) I'd seen rapid and profound improvements in thinking and lives of people, moreso than standard psychology or prayer. So my minister, Franklin, had to have abilities in hypnosis that conflicted with the proscribed form of "treatment" by his church in the confused and bereaved. A guy that conflicted, I thought, probably came from a terrible background where he'd been through something truly awful in the military where he'd had a special skill there too, the ability to climb mountains.

On the other side of my life, I've built businesses. So I thought Franklin's older brother, Everon, ought to be a successful solar panel manufacturer. As a pilot I also gave that skill to him.

Their sister, Cynthia, like my real-life brother, is a banker. The other characters grew from these.
